Our Ogden ReStore Needs Your Help

Ogden, UT (August 24th, 2018) — It has been about 7 months since our last time items were stolen from our affiliate. The first one took place in 2017 at our Habitat Home builds where $5000 worth of tools were stolen. It was a setback in building homes for our families. However, within 48 hours, we raised about $5000 to replace our tools due to the wonderful work and generosity of our local communities, volunteers, and donors. We were able to finish the 2 Habitat Homes within 5 months of that incident and were able to buy security cameras for our next home builds.

Now, as of August 18th, our Ogden ReStore has been broken into over 3 nights in a row*. The most grim news is the fact that the robbers caused major damage to our little box truck. They siphoned off gas from the truck, and put a massive hole in the gas tank to do so. The repair is expensive. The robbers also stole numerous items from our donation area including a table saw and other merchandise.

We are raising funds to purchase a new-used truck and to put a stop to these robberies. The nonprofit store is asking for any donation to be able to put towards our new-used truck, camera, and light system. This will allow the ReStore to start doing their free pick-ups in the community and protect the yard. You can donate at https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/1660036 OR www.paypal.me/habitatwd.

Why rob from a nonprofit? Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties owns the Habitat Ogden ReStore, located at 3111 Wall Avenue Ogden UT 84401. The Ogden ReStore is a nonprofit home improvement thrift store and donation center. Proceeds from the Ogden ReStore goes back towards the affiliate so that more homes can be repaired and built in the local communities. We strive to create “a world where everyone has a decent place to live”. Proceeds are currently being raised for the Guzman family, a single mother and her six children as well as the multiple home repairs for families in need.
The Ogden ReStore relies on box trucks to be able to provide free services for picking up donations in our two-service areas. Our managers and staff pick-up home improvement items including, furniture, lighting, lumber, plumbing, windows, doors, and so much more. The Ogden ReStore strives to keep items out of the landfill, being eco-friendly in our local community.   The ReStore has made alternative arrangements to continue their free pick-up service.

The Ogden ReStore still have their drop-off service area open Tuesday thru Saturday 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Anyone can drop off their donated items to our ReStore. Donors receive a tax-deduction receipt which they can use for IRS tax purposes.

We ask our local communities, donors, and volunteers to help us purchase a new-used box truck so that we can continue with free pick-ups and to be functional again. If you know any information about the individuals involved in the robberies, please contact us directly at 801-475-9821. Donate today at www.paypal.me/habitatwd.

*In the original press release posted on August 24th, 2018, it was stated the Ogden ReStore was robbed 5 nights in the row. We apologize for this typo, since the correct information is 3 nights in a row. We apologize if this had any inconvenience to you. Our newest update about this event is that the culprits have not been found. However, a volunteer was able to install the cameras for our establishment. The truck situation is still unresolved; however, the managers have found ways to continue their free pick-up services.  08/31/2018
